Meet Our Governors
Chair of Governors
"I have a passion for education and believe that we should all strive to offer the best we can to the children in our schools. I have lived in West Berkshire for many years, moving here in 1984 with my husband and 2 children. Before that, my husband’s job took us to different parts of the country; I was fortunate to work in a wide range of schools before joining Bucklebury Primary School as a teacher and subsequently Headteacher before my appointment as Headteacher at Thatcham Park in 2005. I am, therefore, very familiar with the local area, its schools and the communities they serve. Since retiring in 2013 I continue to use and develop my skills to support young people, taking up voluntary work with the Young Witness Support Service. I hope to make a positive contribution to the Governing Board, supporting the development of the whole school community to secure the best possible outcomes for all those involved."
"I have lived in the Newbury area for the last 14 years and for the majority of my working life I have been a chief officer and director in local government, most recently working for borough councils in London, focusing on strategies and programmes in the areas of economic development, regeneration, adults' and children's services. I am now semi-retired with my own consultancy company. I am a governor of another primary school in Newbury and a trustee of the West Berkshire Volunteer Centre."
"As a Mum of two boys at Parsons Down Partnership, I am relishing the opportunity to work alongside governors, the teaching staff and parents to ensure the school provides the best possible learning journey for all pupils. I have been privileged to work at both schools, and have witnessed first-hand what an incredible teaching staff we have. I believe that the senior leadership team has a clear vision for the continued development and improvement of teaching across the partnership and I am keen to support this through the role of Co-opted Governor.
Having launched and run a successful photography business for the past 12 years, I aim to use the knowledge I have developed to enhance the collective skill set of the governing board.""
"I grew up in the Thatcham area until moving away to study. After graduating, I moved to Bonn, Germany for three years where I trained adults in business communication for companies such as Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Post.
Returning to the UK, I followed my real passion, which was was working with young people and as such, completed my Teacher Training at the University of London and I currently work in a West Berkshire secondary school as an English Teacher. My professional interests include all aspects of literacy and teacher training/further development.
I’m delighted at being appointed a Parent Governor and look forward to working with the staff and other governors to represent parental views with appropriate humility."
Local Authority Governor
"I took up my Local Authority Governor’s appointment shortly after retiring in 2006 hoping that I could use some of my time to continue to support children in West Berkshire following a career as both a practitioner and manager in children’s social care.
My contribution to the Parsons Down Schools arises from my working career and ongoing involvement in children’s issues. In 1988 I came to West Berkshire and until retirement managed the local Family Centre for a national children’s charity. This involved me in work with children and parents, recruitment and management of staff and volunteers, managing a substantial budget, working with a range of other professionals and involvement in some of the strategic groups which co-ordinate services across the Local Authority.
Since retiring I have continued to work part time managing Newbury Family Counselling Service, a local charity. I am also involved with the local voluntary and community sector and represent the sector on the Local Safeguarding Children Board."
"I spent my formative years and was educated in Pembrokeshire, Wales before moving to Thatcham in 1991. I initially worked with Barclays Bank in Newbury, leaving as a Personal Banker to have children, both of whom have been through Parsons Down Infant and Junior School. I began working at Parsons Down initially as a parent volunteer helper, before taking up the role of a teaching assistant in 2001. I then qualified as a Higher Learning Teaching Assistant in 2008. I take a special interest in English, Maths and Art and have taught in every year group across the partnership. My hobbies are keeping fit and art. In May, I started art classes where I have rediscovered my love of art.
I hope to be able as a staff governor to give a first-hand insight into the Parsons Down Partnership to assist the other governors to develop the school to achieve its best potential."
