Eco-Schools Update

Before the Christmas Holiday, we set each class the task of deciding on 1 action for each of our 5 Eco-Schools topics from the ideas that they had all contributed towards. The results are now in and we can reveal what the most popular actions were! Drum roll please!

For the School Grounds Topic, the children chose to have regular outdoor learning sessions built into the curriculum. For the Litter Topic, there was a tie between working with a local litter picking team in our community and doing regular lunchtime litter picks in the school grounds - we will, therefore, add both of these actions to our Action Plan. For the Energy Topic, the children decided they would like a non-curriculum day where they learn more about where our energy comes from and how we can help to save energy. For the Water Topic, we decided that we would like more automatic taps in school and for the Waste Topic the children chose to start composting some of our waste at Parsons Down. Phew! What a lot of incredible eco actions!

While most of these actions will have to wait until we are all back in school together again, there are a few things we can do in the meantime. In school, the children can help their teachers to plan in some outdoor learning opportunities. Miss Shepherd has also set them the task of choosing a different outdoor learning activity each week, until half term, that they can do in their bubbles.

For those children learning from home, we have introduced an Eco Project which will be uploaded to the year group Home Learning pages of the website tomorrow, along with the weekly home learning. The Eco Project has a number of challenges to choose from. When you have completed any one of the tasks, simply email your work in to me at the following email address: EcoCoordinator@pdp.w-berks.sch.uk.

Children in school can also work on the Eco Project challenges in their bubbles. I would love to know what you have learned and you may even earn yourself some eco gems!
