While supporting your child’s learning at home, you may find it helpful to know that anyone who is a member of West Berkshire Libraries is able to use most of their online resources remotely. This includes free access to the encyclopaedia Britannica, which has a separate edition for children (aged 5-11 years). Find the link to this here: http://info.westberks.gov.uk/35203
Britannica Junior also includes educational games – for instance, follow the link to ‘Geography Explorer’ on the Britannica Junior website.
If your family don’t have library cards already, you can join online via the West Berks Council website: www.westberks.gov.uk/libraries.
You may also be interested to know that while libraries are closed to the public, they have been running a number of online activities for families, including a weekly reading challenge, a weekly LEGO Club challenge and digital storytimes for younger children. For adults and students, they now have an online book group, West Berks Reads. News about all of these activities is available through social media channels: simply search for WBerksLibraries on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
