Yesterday, Parsons Down hosted a Wear It Wild Day in support of WWF. We had a polar theme which kept us cool on one of the hottest days of the year! The day started with a special assembly by Mrs Bull, explaining where the Arctic and Antarctica are, what animals live there, why they are under threat and what we can do to help.
The children learnt that humans are making choices that lead to climate change, causing habitat loss in the polar regions, but that there are things that we can all do to lessen our impact on the environment. We can:
try and use less energy
choose renewable energy suppliers
borrow, re-use, repair and recycle
buy second-hand
eat less meat
walk, cycle and scoot rather than drive
At lunchtime, there was a special themed menu, featuring dishes inspired by the polar regions. Alice and Ivy created this fabulous poster to let everyone know:

During the day, classes took part in various polar themed activities, including making cardboard tube penguins, creating posters of their favourite polar animals and designing arctic food chain booklets.
We have had lots of generous donations on our Just Giving page as well as cash donations on the day. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this worthy cause. We will let you know when the money has been counted and we have a total amount raised.
A special thank you to the Eco-Committee for choosing to highlight endangered animals across the world. You truly are a fab team!
