Design and Technology
Design and Technology is taught throughout the partnership using the PlanBee scheme, which provides a creative, practical and progressive approach to developing pupils’ designing and making skills. Through a range of engaging projects, pupils are encouraged to explore and evaluate existing products, generate their own ideas, design purposeful and appealing products, and select and use appropriate materials, tools and techniques. The scheme develops pupils’ understanding of structures, mechanisms, electrical systems, textiles, food and materials, while providing opportunities to apply knowledge from other curriculum areas. Pupils learn to work safely and independently, refine their designs through testing and evaluation, and develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Across the school, children build on their previous learning and develop confidence in designing, making and evaluating products for a variety of real-life purposes and users.
