Geography

Geography is taught throughout the partnership using the Kapow Geography scheme, which provides a structured, progressive and engaging approach to developing pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Through a range of carefully planned topics, pupils explore places, environments and geographical processes, developing an understanding of both their local area and the wider world. Lessons provide opportunities for children to investigate physical and human geography, including landscapes, climate, settlements, natural resources and environmental issues. Pupils develop important geographical skills through the use of maps, atlases, photographs, data and digital resources, as well as through fieldwork and practical investigations. They are encouraged to ask questions, make comparisons, identify patterns and consider how people interact with and impact upon their environments. As pupils progress through the school, they build a secure geographical vocabulary and increasingly sophisticated knowledge and skills, developing a curiosity about the world and an understanding of their responsibilities as global citizens.
