This half term sees the official launch of The Good Grub Club, a joint initiative delivered by Parsons Down and supported by the West Berks Foodbank designed to educate, empower and inspire pupils to get cooking!

Our first recipe is Sausage & Bean hotpot:

All our recipes use budget-friendly ingredients and are nutritionally balanced, often providing 2 or 3 portions of vegetables. Ingredients usually come dried, in tins or jars, which means they are PERFECT for the days you haven’t had time to shop or need something quick to prepare at the end of a busy week.

Every recipe can also be cooked by children, with minimal support from grown-ups, which means you can put your feet up.

A number of pupils will be cooking in school this term and, as part of this initiative, will be given the chance to bring the ingredients required home with them. We would LOVE to see what children are making at home so please send any photos through to office@pdp.w-berks.sch.uk

If you’d like to try out any of the recipes, you can follow the instructions, below.

SAUSAGE & BEAN HOTPOT

One can/jar of the following:

Chopped tomatoes

Kidney beans

Baked beans

Hotdogs

How to make it

  1. Open and drain the hotdogs – chop into bite sized pieces

  2. Tip the hotdogs into a saucepan then add tomatoes, kidney beans and baked beans. Stir all the ingredients together.

  3. Season with black pepper and a pinch of salt.

  4. Place saucepan on hob over a medium heat. Stir to ensure ingredients don’t catch on the bottom of the pan.

  5. Once hot, take the pan off the heat and ladle into bowls. Best served with rice, a jacket potato or even chunky slices of bread and butter!
